Artist Bio

Paul Kroner is a contemporary visual artist based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born a maker, and his need to make it led him to a career as a graphic designer. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati's Graphic Design program in 1982, but his desire to make art was always alive in his heart. In his late 40s, he was no longer able to keep his artistic drive secondary in his life and his art practice exploded. He pursued his passion for art through studies at the Massachusetts College of Art, the International School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy, and various other art programs.

Paul's art transcends the boundaries of medium and style. He effortlessly shifts between different artistic expressions, from representational to abstract and 2D to 3D. Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of influences, such as Picasso, Matisse, Henry Moore, Pablo Gargallo, the Bay Area figurative artists of the late 1950s and 60s, contemporary illustrators and designers, and the world around him, his work delves into intra- and interpersonal dynamics.

His art has graced numerous galleries and been featured in solo and group exhibitions across New England and the Midwest. Paul's paintings adorn private collections nationally and internationally, testaments to the universal resonance of his creative vision.

Artist Statement

At the heart of my work is a desire to find the intersection of art and design. I strive for a place where aesthetics and composition work in harmony to communicate, guide, and engage the viewer in a unique experience.

As a trained designer, I bring a process-oriented and iterative approach to my art. I move fluidly from one medium to another and my work spans from representational to abstract, 2D to 3D, and analog to digital.

With the human form as my primary muse, I explore the intricate balance between stability and instability, expressing the universal struggle for equilibrium. My passion lies in the intersection of design aesthetics and human emotion. I am captivated by the elegance of form, the fluidity of curves, and the eloquence of negative space. My creative practice is also a personal odyssey, a daily confrontation with the tumultuous forces within. By illuminating our shared human struggle to find peace and balance through form, curves, and negative space, viewers find fresh openings to contemplate the delicate interplay between inner turmoil and outer calm.

My sculptural endeavors unveil the essence of human existence and the intricate interplay between light and shadow in our collective experience. I aim to engage viewers in deciphering the ambiguity of forms, allowing them to construct their own narratives. The overarching goal remains consistent: to create a visual narrative that integrates the viewer as an essential part of the story.

“There is a vitality,
a life force, an energy,
a quickening that is translated
through you into action,
and because there is
only one of you in all time,
this expression is unique.
And if you block it,
it will never exist through any
other medium and will be lost.”
